by Edberto M. Villegas
Mula kay Dr. Elmer A. Ordonez, kritiko sa panitikan, dating Dekano ng Departamento ng ingles at literatura, University of the Philippines, Diliman
“The novel graphically describes the lives of the poor and wretched whose lot has not improved after EDSA, and analyses Philippine society through the characters. It is an introspective novel in that the characters like Blas, the homosexual or Marita, the ex-beauty queen, share their experiences and thoughts before they joined the Communist Party of the Philippines…. The ill-advised armed uprising (not sanctioned by the central leadership) becomes instructive even as it never takes place at all in reality. The fictional characters are believable, and most scenes familiar to many. It is a social realist novel at its best.”
